Hear about this month’s MCA ARTBAR curated by Gail Priest and taking place as part of the Sonic Social program on Friday June 27th. Gail is bringing together a stellar list of sound artists including Cate Hope, Peter Blamey, Marcus Whale, Julian Day, Kate Carr, and the list goes on. Expect sound that both seduces and repels and aims for maximum molecular movement; you will be dancing on the inside.
Taking place as part of the MCA Artbar is also ‘Guilty Pleasures’, an interactive performance piece by famed Berlin-based Singaporean artist Song-Ming Ang. ‘Guilty Pleasures’ is a listening party to which you are invited to bring a song you consider your guilty pleasure. Share your embarrassing musical indulgence in a supportive environment of other guilty pleasure-rs. Absolve your musical sins!
On Saturday and Sunday at 2pm, Sonic Social brings ‘NO PERFORMANCE TODAY’, a participatory performance piece by Sydney based performance artist Lauren Brincat and musician Bree van Reyk. The work involves a police marching band and moves between the bustling public space of MCA’s forecourt and the interior of MCA foyer. It tests the boundaries of what is perceived as and allowed into the grand category of ‘Performance Art’ and Art in general exploring group dynamics and creating a situation for social interplay. This performance will interrupt the fortnight spectacle we commonly experience with marching bands and work between the polar opposites such as individual-mass, structure-dissolution, and inside-outside exploring how sound effects our behavior and whether the arbitrary created polar opposites can be disseminated through tension.
MUSIC PLAYED DURING THE SHOW:
1) ‘Perhaps a Greeny Blue’ by Kate Carr (Album ‘Blue Green’ by Gail Priest & Kate Carr, 2012)
2) ‘Randolph’s Dream’ by Gail Priest (Album ‘Blue Green’ by Gail Priest & Kate Carr, 2012)
